Seven & Five

california roll?

Sandy’s Scarfette is finished, more details soon.

I was tagged by Jen. Here is how it works: Each player starts with seven random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write their own blog with their seven things as well as these rules. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. Remember to leave a comment for them letting them know they have been tagged and to read your blog.*

  1. I love listening to the radio in my car. Sometimes I’ll tune into the cool kids local college station (among the top ten in the country), but mostly I love listening to pop songs. Like Avril Levigne’s new song Girlfriend? Love it. I turn it up as loud as possible (the kiddos are in the back seat, of course) and jam out and sing loud and clap my hands.
  2. I started playing the french horn when I was in fourth grade. In high school I switched to percussion and was the go-to girl for most glockenspiel parts. I might have been good at it, but I loathed practicing. I was not a band dork.
  3. I have more freckles than anyone I know. Also, my toes are very long, but they’re well suited to my big ol’ feet.
  4. I’m obsessive about having clean countertops. As long as the countertops are wiped clean, I’m happy, even if the rest of the house is a complete disaster.
  5. Speaking of cleaning stuff – I don’t clean my bathroom. Not very often, anyway. I blame this on the summer I spent as a housekeeper in Alaska. My sister and I worked as a team and she’d do the beds while I did the bathrooms – we were super fast. I might have cleaned twenty toilets in a day. That’s enough to put you off cleaning toilets, wouldn’t you think?
  6. I fell in a river once. That summer in Alaska I decided to go on an overnight hike by myself in the wilds of Denali National Park. The first day was fine, I crossed the river no problem, pitched my tent and sat in it for the longest time because I was afraid of being eaten by a bear. On my way back to the park road the next day I crossed the river at a different spot. It wasn’t deep, maybe a little above my knees, but the current was swift. I lost my footing, fell in the water and was carried down stream a ways before I got up and finished crossing (felt like I drifted 100 yds but was probably only a few). It was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I really thought I was a goner.
  7. While in college I worked as a bartender at The Village Idiot in NYC (sadly, it has closed). It was the most fun job I ever had. I liquored up the patrons of the back room on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Good times. Now, suddenly, I’m feeling nostalgic for the Idiot.

*I’m sorry, but I’m not following the rules because I’m not tagging anyone. But if you want to tell the blog world some seven crazy facts about you, then please do.

But wait! There’s more! Today, Jerry is 5. We’re celebrating by going to a ballgame. We had a party for him on Sunday and it was great fun.

I'm 5 years old today.

Happy birthday! That cake looks scrumptious. In our family all the spring birthdays get strawberry shortcake. Yum.
The scarfette looks like some cool picture from the Hubble space telescope- like a colorful vortex or nova or something. Very pretty.

Happy Birthday, Jerry! 5 is a very big deal. Or at least it was to me.

[btw, I also don’t clean the bathroom much, but sadly I do not have your excuse]

Just yesterday I was thinking fondly of the Village Idiot. I think it was my favorite bar, but for the bathrooms.
